• What is Cytoreductive Surgery (CRS) and HIPEC, and who needs it? CRS combined with Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) is an advanced surgical treatment for cancers that have spread to the lining of the abdominal cavity (peritoneum), such as advanced ovarian, colorectal, or gastric cancers. The surgery removes all visible tumors, and then heated chemotherapy is circulated directly inside the abdomen to destroy any remaining microscopic cancer cells.
• Is breast conservation surgery as effective as a mastectomy? Yes, for many early-stage breast cancers, breast conservation surgery (lumpectomy) followed by radiation therapy is just as effective as a full mastectomy in terms of long-term survival.
